This book puts the critical into dementia studies. It makes a
timely and novel contribution to the field, offering a provocative
and thought-provoking critique of current thinking and debate on
dementia. Collectively the contributions gathered together in this
text make a powerful case for a more politically engaged,
deconstructive and critical treatment of dementia and the systems
and structures that currently govern and frame it. The book is
interdisciplinary and draws together leading dementia scholars
alongside dementia activists from around the world. It frames
dementia as first and foremost a political category. The book
advances both theoretical and methodological thinking in the field
as well as sharing learning from empirical research. Outlining the
limits to existing efforts to frame and theorise the condition it
proposes a new critical movement for the field of dementia studies
and practice. The book will be of direct interest to researchers
and scholars in the field of dementia studies and wider fields of
health, disability and care. It will provide a novel resource for
students and practitioners in the fields of dementia, health care
and social care. The book also has implications for dementia
policymaking, commissioning and community development.
First published in 1997, this book marks a culmination of a three
year research programme focused upon the incidence of domestic
violence in Leicester. The study examined the levels of violence,
the details of applicants and respondents and the nature of
complaints, as well as the policies applied and the problems faced
by those enforcing the law. The books sets the findings in the
context of the policies on protection of victims of domestic
violence, the problems they face and protection after 1997. This
book will be of interest to those studying law, social work,
sociology and women's studies.

This edition of the Life of Henry More by Richard Ward is the
outcome of twin initiatives: from Rupert Hall and from delegates at
the conference on the Cambridge Platonists held at Nantes in 1993.
The project took shape at a meeting of the editorial team at
Christ's College in 1994. The editors wish to express their thanks
to the Master and Fellows of Christ's College for permission to
print the unpublished manuscript section of Ward's Life and for
their generosity in supporting the project. We also thank the
British Academy for the Major Research Award towards the cost of
producing the printed copy. We thank John L. Dawson, Manager of the
Literary and Linguistic Computing Centre of the University of
Cambridge and his staff, Beatrix Bown and Rosemary Rodd, for their
technical assistance with the physical preparation of the text.
Thanks also to Douglas de Lacey for his help with Greek and Latin
orthography, and to James Binns for his help in identifying some
quotations. We are particularly grateful to Beatrix Bown for her
unfailingly patient work in transcribing and correcting the printed
and manuscript texts. S. H. 06j/t . J;pt:. l. ~0i37. JGBPti7tU 7. 2

The New Testament books were written to be read aloud. The original
audiences of these texts would have been unfamiliar with our
current practice of reading silently and processing with our eyes
rather than our ears, so we can learn much about the New Testament
through performing it ourselves. Richard Ward and David Trobisch
are here to help. Bringing the Word to Life walks the reader
through what we know about the culture of performance in the first
and second centuries, what it took to perform an early New
Testament manuscript, the benefits of performance for teaching, and
practical suggestions for exploring New Testament texts through
performance today.
Although Adam Scott is a design engineer for Struthers-Ergen, he
has strong links with his upbringing on an outback cattle station
in the state of Victoria, Australia. When he receives strange
letters from his ailing grandfather in a rest home in Melbourne, he
decides to combine a visit to him with a survey of irrigation needs
in Victoria. The grandfather dies before he gets to Melbourne, but
the mystery of the letters containing crude sketches of a boomerang
remain. Adam visits the family's long-abandoned cattle station and
recalls times when, just as the station was about to succumb
financially, his grandfather would disappear and return with money
to bail it out. While Adam is in Australia, the firm is slowly
losing money through the unexplained loss of contracts. Will there
be a link between the last-minute bailing out of the cattle station
and recovery of the irrigation manufacturer? Written in a
fast-paced style, this book will appeal to the adventurous.

Set in New Zealand, Rat Bait is a tense thriller which follows the
activities of Zack Garroway as he pursues a one-man crime spree
after being released from prison. Being part of a small community
has its drawbacks despite the lengths to which he goes to cover his
tracks, and the local police are not as laidback as they appear. As
the net begins to close in, Zack goes to stay with his ex-naval
uncle while the heat dies down, but Zack's complete disregard for
society and individuals leads him into dangerous waters. An
entertaining read with a dark twist.
